The Standard Mental Health First Aid course trains participants to provide initial support to an adult experiencing a mental health problem or crisis until professional help is available or the situation stabilises.
Participants learn to identify signs and symptoms of common mental health issues in adults, recognise emerging or worsening problems, and understand available treatments and supports. The course also covers how to approach someone, start a conversation about concerns, offer support, and encourage professional help.
Upon completion, participants become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders), equipped to provide mental health support and information.
The course is recognised by Suicide Prevention Australia as a safe, high-quality, and effective suicide prevention program.
